Herstory Memoir Monday Recommendations

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

Review:

The Princess Diarist - Carrie Fisher

I put this book on hold as soon as I finished Wishful Drinking. It popped up as a recommendation in Goodreads and I was really excited. I hadn’t heard of it but loved Wishful Drinking enough to know this would be fun too. Of course, its the topic that everyone always wants to hear about, right?

Honestly, the delivery was perfect. She recounts auditioning and what it felt like to get the part, some of the time she spent while filming, and the overwhelming after. Its more of a celebration of her iconic character and what it has meant to be Leia. Personally, I found it refreshing to hear about some joy associated with it after Wishful Drinking. The first book had a lot of pain in the humor.

I hadn’t realized until I started it that the book was inspired by both the discovery of her old journals and the notification that the original characters would be in the new set of movies. Given that her passing came before the end of the Star Wars series, I am grateful for this book. Its a short audio book, only about 5 hours, and read mostly by Carrie Fisher herself. I love her style. The bits that weren’t read by her were done by her daughter, Billie Lourd, presumably to provide a younger voice for the actual journal entries.

I borrowed the book from the library, but its also available for purchase. Click on the cover for options from Booklikes or add to Goodreads
