#WITMONTH ⠀ ⠀ My second fiction of WIT month is The Price of Paradise by Susana Lopez Rubio. It's mostly set in pre-Castro Cuba, which was probably my favorite thing about it. I'm Cuban on my mom's side and grew up in Miami, so there were so many little sayings and mannerisms that made me feel at home. Its cute little romance, for the most part, but felt a little drawn out sometimes too. ⠀ A full review is up on my blog today: allmybalancingacts.com ⠀ ⠀ What are you reading for WIT month?⠀ ⠀ #womenintranslation #wit #bookstagram #booksbywomen
I've been working on a few mini sequences to help strengthen my core for a while now. Most poses required a string core, so it always gets worked some, but there are some poses that do a little more than others for it. I added a core focus day a while back to see if I can get some more strength into my flexibility there. ⠀ The focus involves a mini sequence to add on to the prone positions and one for the supine positions. They're up on the blog today (allmybalancingacts.com). My wheel pose isn't terrible but I want to be able to do a few more variations one day, plus be able to just stand out of it and lay back into it. I know people who can and it just amazes me. ⠀ ⠀ #yoga #yogalife #yogi #yogisofinstagram #yogaeveryday #yogaeverydamnday
Memoir Monday!⠀ ⠀ It's also #witmonth, so here's an interesting memoir by a woman in translation. Samar Yazbek crossed in and out of Syria during the rise of ISIS to record and report the revolution that had preceded it. She provides an important account of the intention of the revolution, the people on the ground, and the way it was hijacked by ISIS. As a book by a journalist, it's also a good choice for anyone working on the Read Harder Challenge (task 5). ⠀ A full review of The Crossing is on the blog today at allmybalancingacts.com ⠀ ⠀ #bookstagram #booksbywomen #womensmemoir #witmemoir #wit #readharder #readharder2019 #memoirmonday #herstory
How long could you survive living alone in a cabin in the woods with no electricity, a few potatoes, some beans, a little flour, and a cow?⠀ I hope I never have to find out but the resourcefulness of The Wall's protagonist is amazing and believable. It's an intriguing story. A full review is available on the blog today at allmybalancingacts.com. ⠀ ⠀ #bookstagram #booksbywomen #witmonth #wit #womenintranslation #womenintranslationmonth
My split isn't quite there but I do focus on it sometimes. I find it helpful in my practice to have days when I focus on one area or another. It mostly comes down to the pose I'm trying to get into. Focus is good, obsession can be distracting. That said I have a slit focus sequence I've developed and mix into my practice. ⠀ The whole thing is posted up on the blog today at allmybalancingacts.com. How do you work into new poses?⠀ ⠀ #yoga #yogalife #yogis #yogi #yogaeveryday #yogaeverydamnday
Memoir Monday!!⠀ ⠀ As it is both #witmonth and Monday, here are my recommendations for anyone reading WIT and memoir. There's a brief description of each on the blog today. ⠀ ⠀ What are you reading for #witmonth? ⠀ ⠀ #bookstagram #booksbywomen #witmemoir #womenintranslation #womensmemoir #memoirmonday
